In Memoriam of the Day: 20 years ago today, legendary British musician Freddie Mercury passed away of bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS, a mere 24 hours after he publicly acknowledged his illness for the first time.
MOCer Ian “Ochre Jelly” Heath remembers the Queen frontman with this lovely Lego tribute.
He writes:

I wanted to create a model that captured Freddie’s energy and joy. And Queen’s concert at Wembley Stadium in the summer of 1986 (one of Freddie’s final performances with Queen) seemed like the perfect source material. The concert was actually televised nationwide a few months later, and so is probably how many of us remember Freddie now - in that regal yellow jacket, sporty pants, Adidas trainers, and wielding his signature “sceptre” microphone stand.

My favorite Queen song is “Princes of the Universe,” which just so happens to be the only song off A Kind of Magic for which Mercury received sole credit.

Their 1986 tour in support of Magic was to be, as we sadly realized on November 24, 1991, Queen’s final tour with the inimitable Freddie Mercury.
Which Queen song/s hold/s special meaning for you?
